Embroidered sheep bib & burp $14 Pink bib & burp w/ name embroidered $11
Bibs and burps save Mom and Dad or anyone holding baby as well as baby's clothing. When my children were babies, their clothing always had a previous owner. Bibs weren't always available or weren't sturdy like they are now. I remember necklines of dresses or shirts were always stained yellow. The bibs, if we had any, were fancy hand embroidered, thin material more for looks than utility. When I had babies, I didn't have a sewing machine or the time to use one it seemed. I am grateful for the perks of being a grandma - having a sewing machine and having more time to use it.
I've learned from the bibs I've made Grace, that a bib must have a shield between fabrics to absorb the constant drips. We usually go through two or three bibs in a day and sometimes have to change her outfit because her bibs weren't up to the job. I now put a middle layer of batting or a reverse layer of fleece to shield her clothes.
Burp cloths also need the middle panel of a cloth diaper, which can coordinate with a bib for a great baby shower gift. I also insert a layer of batting between top and back of totally flannel burp cloths.
